I've been teaching in higher education since 2012, and have taught a wide range of subject matter over the years: thermodynamics, technical communication, chemical engineering design, process modelling, numerical optimisation, mass and energy balances, heat transfer, mass transfer, research methodology, and process control. My research interests include multi-scale modelling, molecular simulation, and chemical thermodynamics. I use both Moodle and Blackboard for teaching and learning.
I'm familiar with simulation packages such as MCCCS Towhee, ms-2, and Materials Studio. I sometimes use Aspen Plus and COCO. In terms of coding tools and languages, I'd say I'm most familiar with GNU Octave/Matlab, but I have used Python and Fortran90/95 too. I've also done some work using Claude Code and OpenCode.
I'm pretty familiar with Windows (all versions from 95 onwards) and I use MacOS regularly too. I have used Ubuntu, CentOS, MS-DOS, and DR-DOS too. In terms of productivity software, I use Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint regularly, but I do sometimes use LaTeX and CLI tools such as marp.
My regular research work includes emacs, bash, PBS scripting, and using high performance computing facilities to execute Fortran90 programs.
I've sat on various committees over the years, including Financial Aid and Scholarships, Library and Information Technology, Higher Degrees and Research, and Teaching and Learning. I have also been involved in developing curricula, plagiarism policy, and module templates.
Currently, I am serving as Treasurer for the KwaZulu-Natal Branch Committee of the South African Institution of Chemical Engineers (since Jan 2026).
