Overview and teaching philosophy

I have taught a variety of subject matter over the years (as you will see below) -- almost enough to reconstruct an entire chemical engineering programme! The reason for teaching such a wide array of subjects has been my willingness to step in as required by the department, which does necessitate a fair bit of teaching prep before each semester on occasion!

My approach to teaching is to try and meet the students where they are. In other words, I try to be pragmatic and employ whichever pedagogical approach is both appropriate for the module and which gets through to the students. The context of the institution and the students matters a great deal in a country like South Africa, which has high levels of diversity not only in terms of ethnicity, but also in terms of socioeconomic background, family structure, and home language use.
